Africa Online Space ("AOS", "we", "our", or "us") provides a marketplace and social platform where people can discover listings, buy and sell, communicate, publish content, follow creators and sellers, join live experiences, and use related AOS services. This policy explains the information we collect, why we use it, when it may be shared, and the choices available to you.

1. Information we collect

Depending on how you use AOS, we may collect the following categories of information:

  • Account information: your display name, email address, phone number where provided, profile photo, account identifiers, authentication information, language, country, currency, and account preferences.
  • Seller and business information: seller profile details, business category, storefront information, business address, operating information, listing details, and other information you choose to publish as a seller.
  • Verification information: where you request personal or business verification, AOS may process identity or business verification documents and information required to review that request.
  • Listings and user content: ads, descriptions, prices, photos, videos, Shorts, Live content, comments, reviews, reactions, reposts, reports, and other material you submit or publish.
  • Communications: messages and attachments you send through AOS, plus technical and status information needed to provide chat, audio calls, video calls, and live sessions. We may also process moderation or abuse reports relating to communications.
  • Location information: country, region, locality, seller location, map locations, or device location when you choose to grant location access or use a location-based feature.
  • Activity and interaction data: searches, saved searches, follows, wishlist activity, listing views, content views, likes, saves, shares, downloads, notification interactions, and other actions used to operate and improve AOS.
  • Device, notification, and technical data: device type, push-notification tokens, IP and request information, browser or app information, diagnostics, error logs, security events, and performance data.

2. How we use information

  • Create, authenticate, secure, and manage your AOS account.
  • Provide marketplace features including listings, seller storefronts, search, recommendations, maps, reviews, wishlists, and saved searches.
  • Provide social and communication features including profiles, follows, chat, calls, Shorts, Live, comments, reactions, and notifications.
  • Process personal or business verification requests and display verification status where applicable.
  • Personalize content, search results, and recommendations based on relevant preferences and activity.
  • Detect spam, abuse, fraud, security threats, policy violations, and other harmful activity.
  • Measure reliability and usage, diagnose technical problems, and improve AOS features and performance.
  • Comply with applicable law, enforce our terms, resolve disputes, and protect the rights and safety of AOS, our users, and others.

3. When information is shared

We do not sell your personal information. Information may be shared only where needed to provide or protect the service, including:

  • Other AOS users: information you make public, such as your profile, seller storefront, listings, reviews, public content, and verification indicator, can be visible to other users. Information you send in a conversation is visible to the participants in that conversation.
  • Service providers and infrastructure: we may use providers that help us host, store, deliver notifications, process media, provide real-time communication, monitor reliability, or secure AOS. They receive only the information needed to perform those services and are expected to protect it.
  • Legal and safety reasons: we may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law or legal process, investigate fraud or abuse, enforce our terms, or protect users, AOS, or the public.
  • Business changes: information may be transferred as part of a merger, financing, acquisition, restructuring, or sale of all or part of the business, subject to appropriate safeguards.

4. Public content and marketplace interactions

AOS includes public and semi-public areas. Content you choose to publish may be seen, copied, shared, or interacted with by other users according to the audience and feature settings available to you. When you contact a seller or another user, information you intentionally share in that interaction can be seen by the recipient.

5. Data retention and account deletion

AOS keeps information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, maintain security, resolve disputes, meet legal obligations, and enforce agreements. Retention periods vary depending on the type of information and why it is held.

When you request account deletion through AOS, the account is deactivated and hidden immediately. AOS currently provides a 30-day restoration period. If you do not restore the account during that period, the account and data scheduled for deletion are permanently deleted from active systems. Some limited records may be retained where necessary for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, dispute handling, or other legitimate obligations.

See the Account Deletion page for instructions and more information.

6. Your choices and rights

  • Review and update available profile, account, storefront, and preference information.
  • Control certain permissions, notification preferences, audience settings, and device permissions through AOS or your device settings.
  • Delete content where the relevant AOS feature allows deletion.
  • Request deletion of your account and associated personal data.
  • Request access, correction, or other rights available to you under applicable data-protection law.

7. Security

We use technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, including encrypted network transport, authentication and authorization controls, restricted access, validation of uploaded content, service monitoring, and security logging. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, so users should also protect their credentials and devices.

8. Children

AOS is intended for adults. Users must meet the minimum age required by our Terms of Use and applicable law. If we learn that personal information was collected from a child who is not permitted to use AOS, we will take appropriate steps to remove the account and information as required by law.

9. International use

AOS is designed for users across Africa and may rely on infrastructure or service providers in different countries. Where information is transferred across borders, we take steps intended to ensure that it remains protected in accordance with applicable law and this policy.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as AOS changes or as legal requirements evolve. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date and provide notice through AOS or another appropriate channel where required.
